Gershom Scholem vodi čitatelja kroz središnje teme zakučaste povijesti kabale. Gershom Scholem je profesor židovskog misticizma na Hebrejskom sveučilištu u Jeruzalemu. Njegove mnoge knjige i studije o židovskom misticizmu izrasle su iz golemog pionirskog rada pri otkrivanju i tumačenju do sada zanemarenih ili nepoznatih rukopisa.
