About the book KRALJ JOHA
Tournier, Michel, francuski romanopisac i esejist (Pariz, 19. XII. 1924 – Choisel, Yvelines, 18. I. 2016). Studirao filozofiju, etnologiju i pravo. Bio književni prevoditelj, novinar i urednik. U romanima najčešće parafrazirao i alegorijski preoblikovao arhetipske i mitske motive, pitanja kolektivnoga kulturnog nasljeđa te citate iz književnih djela: Petko ili bespuća Pacifika (Vendredi ou les Limbes du Pacifique, 1967), s likom Defoeova Robinsona koji odbacuje civilizaciju i sjedinjuje se s prirodom, Kralj joha (Le Roi des aulnes, 1970), nadahnut istoimenom Goetheovom baladom a prema srednjovjekovnoj legendi, o noćnom duhu koji donosi smrt (u romanu konkretiziran motivom nacizma), Meteori (Les Météores, 1975), s istraživanjem simboličkoga značenja blizanaca (motiv Kastora i Poluksa), Gašpar, Melkior i Baltazar (Gaspard, Melchior et Balthazar, 1980), Eleazar ili izvor i grm (Éléazar ou la Source et le buisson, 1996), s usporednim motivima doseljenja irske obitelji u Ameriku u XIX. st. i Mojsijeva pokušaja dolaska u obećanu zemlju. Zapaženi su mu i eseji Vjetar tješitelj (Le Vent paraclet, 1977), Vampirov let (Le Vol du vampire, 1981), Zrcalo ideja (Le Miroir des idées, 1994).
