Kognitivna terapija punom svjesnošću je oblik kognitivne terapije za održa-vanje stanja dobrobiti i izbjegavanja stalnog rizika od ponavljanja depresivne epizode.
Konačni je cilj programa MKTTD pomoći pojedincima da naprave radikalni pomak u svom odnosu prema mislima, osjećajima i tjelesnim osjetima koji doprinose ponavljanju depresije.
Tek onda kad osobe nauče zauzeti drugačiji stav prema "bojnom polju" vlastitih misli i osjećaja, mogu u budućnosti dovoljno rano prepoznati teške situacije i vješto se s njima suočavati. Zauzimanje takvog drugačijeg stava uključuje isprobavanje drugačijeg modusa djelovanja uma od onog koji obično koristimo, a koji koriste i mnoge terapije.
To znači da umjesto starog načina učvršćivanja i rješavanja problema uvodimo novi način dopuštanja stvarima da budu baš takve kakve jesu, kako bismo jasnije pronašli najbolje odgovore na danu situaciju.
