About the book MRTVI
Peti roman Christiana Krachta vodi nas u Weimarsku Republiku i Japansko Carstvo nekoliko godina prije početka Drugog svjetskog rata, a prati perspektivnog švicarskog redatelja Emila Nägelija, koji bi u Japanu trebao ostvariti filmsku suradnju s Masahikom Amakasuom, japanskim carskim povjerenikom za filmska pitanja. Unatoč početnoj želji da odbije ponudu njemačkih filmskih magnata, Nägeli nakon razuzdane pijanke s Lotte Eisner i Siegfriedom Kracauerom ipak odluči otputovati u Japan i za ogroman novac snimiti film, ali ne baš onakav kakav su zamislili financijeri.
Narativna podloga romana “Mrtvi” prati strukturu Noh kazališta, podijeljena je u tri čina i tematizira problem filma, ritma, performansa, vizualnih umjetnosti i njihovog odnosa sa stvarnošću. Kracht na sebi svojstven način prikazuje grotesknu atmosferu između dva rata, dok se na pozornici izmjenjuje cijeli niz likova iz svijeta filma iz tog razdoblja, od Fritza Langa do Charlieja Chaplina.
