Londonsko kazalište Unicorn postaje poprištem ubojstva u trenutku kad iz pištolja, kazališnog rekvizita, za vrijeme trajanje predstave bude ispaljen ne lažni, nego vrlo stvaran metak.
Žrtva je bio Arthur Surbonadier, glumac koji se na svom putu do uspjeha i slave na "daskama koje život znače" više služio ucjenama a manje talentom.
